The name Disvoy comes from a historical event:

Once, when fishermen from Vestmanna were out east at Sandotn, a foreign ship approached them. Fearing it was a pirate ship, they grabbed their oars and decided to row between Kvívíksdrangur and Heimari Drangur in hopes of luring the pirates into running aground.

To taunt and entice them to follow, they called out in their best Vestmanna-English: “Dis voy, dis voy!”—and that is how the rock formation Disvoy got its name.
