Amtmansborgin
A historic 19th-century residence overlooking central Tórshavn
Amtmansborgin was built in 1881 as the residence of the Danish governor of the Faroe Islands. Built from Faroese basalt, the stately building was once one of the most prominent houses in Tórshavn.
Since 1948, Amtmansborgin has served as the residence and administration of the Danish High Commissioner in the Faroe Islands. It stands in Tórshavn's historic administrative quarter, surrounded by old houses and gardens.
