A short hike to Bogin through peaceful nature with sweeping coastal views
The experience begins with the beautiful approach to Nólsoy, where colourful houses, the white church, the old neighbourhood of Í Túni, the stone buildings on Eiðið and small boats by the floating dock create a peaceful scene. The white gateway above the harbour seems to draw you away from the bustle of city life across the sound. As you step ashore and walk towards the village, it feels like entering another, quieter world.Walk into the village, passing the new café Stutthol on your right and Ovasavnið on your left. The museum is named after the famous rower Ove Joensen and also houses Visit Nólsoy. Continue past the small shopping square and straight up the hill known as Í Geilini until you reach the rolling gate and the road leading north to Stongin.
North of the village, the people of Nólsoy have created two short and easy circular hikes as alternatives to the longer hike south to Borðan. One leads to Boði at the northern tip of the island, while the other climbs to Flaggstongin, the highest point north of Nólsoy village. Each route is approximately 2.6 km, or 4.4 km when combined.
Continue north along the road. Approximately 250 metres beyond the rolling gate, the road divides. Take the lower road towards Boði or the upper road towards Flaggstongin, described in route 2.
Route 1: North to Boði
About halfway to Boði, you will reach the peaceful Ednulund grove. This recreational area contains many trees and flowers, a sheltered nook at its centre and two large shelters on the hillside above. Explore the varied plants and stonework, or sit at one of the tables and enjoy the tranquillity and views.
According to an old local tale, newborn babies were once left outside overnight here at Stongin to test which were strong enough to survive. Just below Ednulund, a sign marks a tern breeding colony. Please keep away from the nesting area.
Continue north towards Boði. At the end of the road, you will reach an iron gate. Before passing through it, you can make a detour down to Boði itself and see how the waves have washed the rocky surface bare. This extension is approximately 300 metres each way. The rock resembles a raw lunar landscape dotted with small pools. Walk far enough to see the tip of the headland, sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view and the passing boats. Among the many fulmars, you may also spot a puffin. Return uphill by the same route.
Pass through the iron gate and follow the marker posts eastwards to the road on the eastern side of the island. The terrain is flat and grassy, with bridges across two marshy sections. The panoramic views extend from Sandoy in the south to the Northern Islands. This is a peaceful area with many moorland birds. You can also enjoy views down the eastern slopes and south towards the bird cliffs near Rivtangi.
Follow the marker posts to the road beside the stone wall and return to the village. On the way back, you can continue along route 2 to Flaggstongin.

Take SSL ferry route 90 between Tórshavn and Nólsoy:

Do not take your car on the ferry. Park in Tórshavn and begin the walk directly from the ferry terminal in Nólsoy, continuing south through the village for approximately 600 metres.
A limited number of parking spaces in central Tórshavn allow parking for up to eight hours. These are marked by green circles on the image. See also the parking information from Tórshavn Municipality.
You can also park outside the designated parking zone, marked by the red dotted line, where there are no time restrictions.
From the parking areas, walk down to the ferry M/S Ternan at Kongabrúgvin, marked by the blue square on the image.

Suitable for children aged 6 and over. If you walk out onto Boði, adults must keep hold of children, as the terrain is steep and slightly difficult.

Most of the route follows paved roads and gravel tracks. The exception is the short 300-metre section between the roads at Boði, where the path is grassy and two long footbridges cross the marshland.
